Panasonics-major-restructurin

On April 1, 2026, Japan’s Panasonic Group officially completed its strategic split and reorganization. Panasonic simultaneously issued three core announcements, announcing the implementation of a new round of group-level organizational changes, completing business splits, new entities and personnel adjustments through absorption and separation. In this change, the strategic ownership adjustment of the lighting business has also attracted the attention of industry insiders.

This transformation uses absorptive company split as the core means, splitting the core business of the original Panasonic Electric Co., Ltd. into three wholly-owned subsidiaries:

Panasonic Electric Co., Ltd./New Panasonic Electric Co., Ltd.

Panasonic HVAC&CC Co., Ltd./Panasonic HVAC and Cold Chain Company

Panasonic Electric Engineering Co., Ltd.

Specifically, Panasonic Electric Co., Ltd. has adopted a new operating system. It is reported that through business integration, the main business of the original Panasonic Electric Lifestyle Home Appliances Company and China Northeast Asia Company will be undertaken by Panasonic Entertainment Interactive Co., Ltd. The company was renamed Panasonic Electric Co., Ltd. and will focus on the development of the life business segment with home appliances as the core, which is the direction of the Panasonic Group. The core carrier of C-end and Chinese market.

The main business includes: large home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines; small home appliances such as beauty and health, kitchen appliances; AVC products such as digital cameras, TVs, headphones, video intercom doorbells and professional audio and video systems; it also covers the research and development, manufacturing and sales of related equipment, enterprise solutions and bicycles and other products.

Panasonic HVAC&CC Co., Ltd. integrates the HVAC company and cold chain solution company under the original Panasonic Sustainable Climate Technology Group to become a vertical technology company focusing on the air, water, and food fields. The independent operation of air conditioning and cold chain marks Panasonic's promotion of low-carbon climate technology to the group's strategic level, forming a two-wheel drive with the lifestyle business.

The business scope includes household/commercial air conditioners, ventilation equipment, air purifiers, CO₂ heat pump water heaters, air source heat pumps, commercial cold chain display cabinets, and kitchen equipment.

It is worth noting that Panasonic's lighting business is clearly classified as "Panasonic Electric Engineering Co., Ltd." It is reported that the business scope of "Panasonic Electric Engineering Co., Ltd." newly reorganized from the electrical engineering business includes: lighting fixtures, high and low voltage power distribution equipment, switch panels, sockets, smart door locks, and door control security equipment.

Panasonic's lighting business covers both domestic and commercial applications. However, after this reorganization, lighting has been clearly included in the sector with B-end engineering as the core and no longer belongs to the "smart life" sector. This shows that in Panasonic's strategic positioning, lighting is more defined as "electrical engineering products."

At the same time, the former head of Panasonic Lighting's China business is now the "Head of Panasonic China Northeast Asia Business WS Business Promotion Headquarters." WS is Wellness Smart, a smart health business that focuses on overall solutions for living spaces rather than single lighting products. This also confirms Panasonic’s strategic shift: from selling a lamp to selling a “healthy home”.

From this change in Panasonic’s organizational structure, we can find:

First, Panasonic’s global lighting team and resources are tilting towards the B-side. In the future, Panasonic's lighting products will be more focused on engineering projects, construction supporting equipment, and professional channels.

Second, in China’s C-side business, lighting products will mainly rely on e-commerce channels.

Third, offline stores may shift from selling lights to displaying and experiencing healthy home solutions.

This change is a landmark move for this century-old manufacturing giant to transform from a "comprehensive diversified group" to a "professional vertical operation platform". All adjustments are centered around business centralization, decision-making efficiency improvement, and regional decentralization.

What changes will the changes in Panasonic's global organizational structure bring to its business in China, especially its lighting business? What else do you know about the latest news about Panasonic’s lighting business? You are welcome to share it in the message area.
